It all started as a joke in Pince, a village in France.
Then some people thought that it actually was a good idea: to have more chickens feed off organic waste. Every chicken could eat 150kg of rubbish a year. Some 15-20 households have already signed up to get two chickens in September.
This way chickens could help both the environment and households: they would help cut the cost of waste disposal and provide fresh eggs.
The idea is not new. Two years ago, the inhabitants of Mouscron in Belgium were also offered chicken to reduce food waste.
